Teen Stress, Wellness and Mental Health

Tam High Parent-Teen Speaker Series invites you to join us for a discussion about issues facing teens today, including substance use, depression, self harm and stress, which all show high rates as reported in the 2015-2016 Tam High California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) results. The new CHKS results for Tam will be presented.

Tam HS mental health providers will share their observations and learnings from working on campus with Tam students through the BACR counseling and Teen Screen programs. Meredith McGarvey and Boe Roberts will share information about the signs and symptoms of depression, anxiety, self-harm, and suicide risk. They will educate parents/caregivers about getting support for their teen during a crisis. In addition, they will discuss practical skills for self-care and for helping a friend in crisis.

Our Tam Counselors and TUHSD Wellness Director will share information about on-campus support services for students and discuss community resources for teens related to various teen mental-health needs.

Featuring Meredith McGarvey, LMFT, Buckelew Programs and Teen Screen Program Director; Jessica Colvin, THUSD Wellness Director and Boe Roberts, BACR Lead Counselor.
